Embark on a Transformative 7-Day Nianfo Retreat (Foqi) at Master Renshan’s Zhenning Pure Land Temple in China. It will not only be a meditation retreat to cultivate inner peace but also a Buddhist cultural experience to explore the fascinating Buddhist culture in China.

What to Expect:
✨ Daily Nianfo Meditation: We will engage in daily Nianfo (Amitabha chanting) meditation. Nianfo, also known as Amitabha chanting, is a simple yet super powerful meditation to help us obtain peace of mind in the moment. There will be a combination of chanting sessions, walking meditation and silent meditation. Jiawen will blend various Nianfo techniques during the retreat to make sure there is one that suits you the best. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced practitioner, this retreat will help you deepen your practice. There will also be time for self-practice during the retreat.
✨ Dharma Talks: Jiawen will expound the Dharma and our beloved teacher Venerable Master Renshan will also give Dharma talks during the retreat (Jiawen will lead the majority of the retreat as Master Renshan is only available during the weekend).
✨ Buddhist Cultural Experience: You will experience the lifestyle of living in a Buddhist monastery and also engage in daily duties in the temple.
✨ Pure Land concert: We will also have a little Pure Land concert and immerse ourselves in high energy Buddhist chants.

Three meals will be provided during the retreat (there will also be daily eight-precept observation for those who want to observe the eight precepts. Please note that this is optional and you don’t have to follow it).

A Few Things to note:
Jiawen will wait for you at Zhenning Pure Land Temple, all you need to do is to get your visa to China and organise your flight to China. Best to fly into Shanghai or Wenzhou (nearest airport). If you fly into Shanghai, Jiawen’s friend Lucy and Ivan can help organise your stay in Shanghai and help you book the train ticket to the temple (or you can also do it yourself if you know how. The temple is about 3hrs fast train from Shanghai to Qingtian (青田) train station - nearest train station to the temple, from Qingtian station, you only need to get a taxi to the temple, just show them the address of the temple in Chinese or we may also be able to pick you up from there depending on the time of your arrival).
*Please make sure you install WeChat on your phone prior to enter into China, as in China this may be our only mean of communication, no social media (no Facebook & instagram), no gmail etc. work in China as we have our own social media etc. Please make sure your credit card works in China (do double and triple check with your bank), please make sure you also bring plenty of RMB (Chinese Yuan) with you just in case your card doesn’t work.
*Other things to note: Please wear conservative clothes in the temple like t-shirts and long pants. Please do not wear revealing clothes in the temple like shorts and skirts.
*Please take up your own travel insurance as we won’t be responsible for any injuries and other accidents (e.g. lose of valuable items etc). during the retreat regardless of what reasons they are caused.

A Nianfo Retreat & A Pure Land Pilgrimage Combined
We will conclude the Foqi at Zhenning Pure Land Temple on 17th May. After the retreat, Jiawen will most likely travel to Putuo Mountain (the Bodhimanda of Guanyin Bodhisattva in China), then travel to Donglin Temple (the first and the oldest Pure Land Temple in China with 48 metres Amitabha Buddha statue) to receive Bodhisattva precepts. If you like to follow Jiawen to Donglin Temple for a Pure Land Pilgrimage, you are also welcome (please note that you will be responsible for your own travel costs during the trip).
