Why Choose Ordination?
This is a topic I’ve rarely had the chance to truly talk about.
It’s not that people haven’t asked—but it’s not something that can be explained in just a few sentences.
During this year’s Lunar New Year, I returned to my hometown and met friends from my school days. They were surprised, but also a little hesitant to ask—perhaps wondering if I had gone through some kind of setback (haha).
First of all, let me clarify: my decision to ordain was not due to any hardship or emotional blow.
(At this point, there’s honestly very little that can shake me—and if there is, reciting the Buddha’s name usually resolves it.)
In truth, the reason is simple:
when conditions ripen, things unfold naturally.
Ordination: Limitation or Freedom?
Someone once told me that they would never choose such a “restrictive” path.
I couldn’t help but smile.
“You are not the fish—how do you know its joy?”
“How can a sparrow understand the ambition of a swan?”
Many people see ordination as a limitation, simply because they don’t understand what it truly is.
With sincere intention and proper guidance,
ordination is not bondage, but a higher form of spiritual freedom.
This kind of freedom cannot be imagined—it must be experienced.
The True Meaning of Ordination
Ordination is not merely leaving home or changing one’s appearance.
True ordination means:
Leaving the “home” of the Three Realms
Leaving the “home” of afflictions
The “Three Realms” refer to:
the Realm of Desire, Form, and Formlessness—
the domains within which all beings cycle in rebirth.
My Purpose in Ordaining
Simply put:
to transcend birth and death, and to attain Buddhahood to benefit all beings.
To become a Buddha means complete awakening, free from suffering.
To liberate beings means helping others transcend suffering.
On Rebirth
From a Buddhist perspective, life does not end with one lifetime.
Beings cycle through the six realms:
heavenly, human, asura, animal, hungry ghost, and hell.
Birth and death repeat endlessly.
Why Am I So Certain?
People often ask: why do you believe this?
For me, this is not belief—it is experience.
Why Choose Ordination?
One does not need to ordain to practice.
However, ordination greatly supports cultivation.
It helps reduce attachments and distractions, allowing deeper focus.
A Higher Path of Practice
Rebirth in the Pure Land has different levels.
Diligent practice as a monastic supports higher attainment and faster progress.
Ordination, For Me
For me, ordination is both a natural condition and a calling.
On a practical note (haha):
it reduces unnecessary social interactions and allows greater focus.
结语
Conclusion
The meaning of ordination cannot be fully expressed in one article.
This is not written to persuade anyone.
Each person has their own path.
I am simply sharing my own choice.
May you all be peaceful and at ease.
